Elections Matter – Presentation Reviews and Feedback
As the major Presidential election approaches, it is important that students like us keep ourselves involved and informed on how it is progressing. The election process may seem super complicated to the common citizen but by staying involved we are already one step ahead. Each groups presents one major factor of the election process and how it is impacting the current election.
Group 1
Group 1’s presentation on the gender inequality present in our society today and especially in election was super fascinating and compelling. It was super interesting to see the complete history and impact of women on the political frontline. Women have been fighting for their rights for years and to this day we still see some prejudice and inequality present. I enjoyed the video they included because I learned about the Women’s Suffrage March and how big of a role this event played in the inclusion of women in society.
We still see women facing challengers to this day, while our society has definitely advanced and grown as a community, there is still some clear stereotypes and bias placed on women.
Group 1 did amazing including videos and graphs that were super detailed and summarized their information well, while still adding their own personal touch to it. It was also interesting to see the global and American perspective on gender movement and gender equality as whole. My favorite part was probably Emmanuela’s part on the YWCA in South Florida. I have never heard about this organization but hearing her presentation made me super interested and I plan to get in involved in the future whenever possible.
Group 2
Group 2 begins by describing why it is important to stay educated on immigration policies. The process to becoming a legal immigrant is not simple and it is imperative we stay informed and educated on the laws the politicians are putting in place. I enjoyed their use of the video because it thoroughly described the history of immigration within our country and was very informative. My favorite part about their presentation was the inclusion of famous policies throughout the years. I believe it was super interesting and creative to include in their presentation. I also enjoyed hearing about the process of becoming a legal immigrant because it is super complex and not a lot of people realize how complicated the process truly is.
Group 2 made wonderful use of available resources such as graphs, tables, and videos that were all extremely informative and interesting to see the views of the entire nation as an everyday citizen. Their interviews were also extremely in-depth, and it was clear to see that all the group members were educated on the topic they were presenting about. Their inclusion of a Ted Talk video was also super interesting because it shows us the struggles, obstacles, and unfair treatment immigrants endured from a person with first-hand experience.
Group 3
Now we move onto group 3, which is my own group. We first started by introducing why education is important for ourselves, our careers, and our future. We then went on to describe both major political party policies on education. To summarize, the Republican party aims for students to be involved in the governance of their learning environment and have a say in how and what they learn. The Republican party on the other hand, emphasizes the cultivation of civic virtues, responsibility, and preparation of students to be active citizens in the real world. Each presenter did an interview on how people feel about each of these people to earn insight on what students, teachers, and regular citizens think about the policies being proposed by both of the parties.
After describing both policies, we spoke about how students can make their voices and heard and why they should vote for these policies and candidates. Some of the major takeaways from this is that we can stay involved by keeping ourselves updated on political news, such as the current presidential election, attend local meetings and participate in events, and engage with elected officials. All of these factors are important as to how we can keep ourselves involved and in the loop of political matters in our society. There are many ways to vote such as early voting or mail-in ballots. These are all placed to keep voting accessible and convenient for citizens. As students we should be using our voice and making it heard by voting on these policies, because our vote matters!
Overall, I believe our group did very well presenting and passing the information to our fellow classmates. If there was anything we can improve it would be our research skills and ensure that we are fact checking all our information and evidence before presenting. But other than that; I believe we presented well, our information we clear, concise, and straight to the point.
Group 4
Group 4 begins by describing the Electoral College. The Electoral College decides who will be elected for President and Vice President of each party. Some may think that the Electoral College is a physical place, when really is a group of electors that choose who will be the candidate for that party. I enjoyed their use of graphs from the US Census because it was very informative, and I enjoyed seeing the percentage of Americans that believe we should keep our current system of the Electoral college while others believe we should switch the system to popular votes.
I appreciated their in-depth description of the election process as it may confusing to some, including me. They separated the process into simpler steps, making it easier to understand how the flow of elections truly works. I also enjoyed how they included American views and perspective because it shows their concerns and wants from the current government. They also included the views of the world; it was interesting to learn that countries look up to our country. Overall, I believe their presentation was super in depth and information filled. I liked how each presenter was informed on their topic and knew exactly what they were talking about.
Excellent post and reflection!!
