Jielianne Rodriguez - Elections Matter Review and Feedback

Elections Matter – Presentation Reviews and Feedback   As the major Presidential election approaches, it is important that students like us keep ourselves involved and informed on how it is progressing. The election process may seem super complicated to the common citizen but by staying involved we are already one step ahead. Each groups presents one major factor of the election process and how it is impacting the current election.   Group 1  Group 1’s presentation on the gender inequality present in our society today and especially in election was super fascinating and compelling. It was super interesting to see the complete history and impact of women on the political frontline. Women have been fighting for their rights for years and to this day we still see some prejudice and inequality present. I enjoyed the video they included because I learned about the Women’s Suffrage March and how big of a role this event played in the inclusion of women in society. We...

Kristine Gomez - Elections Matter Fall 2024 Project Feedback Post

Kristine Gomez  Professor Sinkoff gave us the opportunity to research on what is happening during elections. We were put into groups and each group had to research a certain matter. The first group delved into the persistent issue of gender inequality. Their presentation illuminated how gender biases are entrenched in societal structures and continue to influence various aspects of life, from the workplace to personal relationships. I was particularly struck by their discussion of the gender pay gap, with statistics showing that women still earn significantly less than men for the same work. This disparity is even more pronounced when considering intersections with race and ethnicity. The group's exploration of global perspectives was enlightening. Learning about countries that have implemented progressive policies to promote gender equality showcased the possibilities for meaningful change. It prompted me to consider how cultural norms and legislative actions can either hind...

Julia Bojorquez - Second Presentation Summery & Feedback

My Takeaways from Four Presentations      I had the opportunity to attend four group presentations that explored some of today’s most important social and political issues. Each topic gender inequality, immigration policies, education policies, and the electoral process holds significance for our understanding of society and the values that guide us. Reflecting on these presentations has given me deeper insights into these complex issues, the historical contexts behind them, and the diverse perspectives that shape public opinion today. Here’s what I took away from each one.      Group 1 presented on gender inequality, and it made me think deeply about how this issue has evolved and yet remains a prominent challenge. They started by giving an overview of the history of gender inequality, explaining how it’s been embedded in societal structures for centuries. This historical context made me realize how deeply ingrained certain biases are, and it highlighted w...

Group one started off with Chapter 1, which goes over public speaking. They started off with the benefits to public speaking which are social corporations, ability to speak from anywhere through video calls in current time, influence of an audience, a life skill that will last you your whole life, and much more. They mentioned the fact that public speaking is an art form that started back with Greek Philosophers like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Federico went over how public speaking is more than just speaking in front of people and that it is a powerful tool used to connect and share ideas together. We see public speaking in many moments of our daily lives even though we may not realize it. One of the biggest changes in public speaking is inventions that allow us to speak to other all over the world like advancements in radio to computers, and phone calls. Christian mentions how the five arts of public speaking are invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery. Christia...

Kristine Gomez - Chapter Presentations

Public speaking has evolved significantly over time, becoming an essential skill in various fields, from business to education to media. In our presentation, my classmates and I explored a comprehensive range of topics from Public Speaking: The Evolving Art (5th edition) by Stephanie J. Coopman and James Lull. These chapters provided us with invaluable insights into both the theoretical and practical aspects of public speaking. This essay delves into the key concepts from chapters 1 to 17, covering everything from building confidence to delivering persuasive speeches and understanding the role of media in public speaking. The first chapter introduces public speaking as an evolving art, highlighting how technological advancements and changes in societal norms have reshaped this skill. Public speaking is no longer confined to physical spaces but has expanded into digital platforms, where speakers must adapt their styles to accommodate virtual audiences. Coopman and Lull emphasize th...

Julia Bojorquez  Presentation Essay I thoroughly enjoyed the four different presentations we covered, each diving into various aspects of public speaking and communication. They improved my understanding of the process and provided practical insights into developing my skills. From learning about the foundations of public speaking, to developing confidence, and mastering audience engagement, each presentation built on the previous one, and I found myself fully engaged in the material. The comprehensive exploration of these topics not only gave me the tools to improve my public speaking but also made me appreciate the complexity and art of effective communication. The first presentation focused on the evolution and importance of public speaking. I found this introduction captivating, as it connected public speaking to its historical roots with philosophers like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. It was fascinating to see how these ancient thinkers laid the groundwork for what is now co...
