Chapter Presentations Review
Group 1: Chapters 1, 2, 3, & 5
One thing that stood out to me during the beginning of their presentation were the benefits of public speaking that they mentioned: social cooperation, being able to speak anywhere in the world. influence, and building an audience. I found these super informative because I would have never thought of these factors as being part of the advantages of speaking publicly. I also found it creative how they connected the importance of these factors to worldwide events such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
Another aspect of their presentation that I enjoyed were the five arts of public speaking. Those being: inventions, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery. While I always consider these factors when preparing for a public speech, I would have never thought of them to be part of the "art" of public speaking. It was super interesting to learn about how they truly affect your presentation and how it is executed. I also enjoyed the video that they played because it truly highlighted the importance of public speaking and how prevalent it is in our society nowadays. This video was also reliable and credible because it came from TedTalk, so I knew that I could trust the information they were presenting.
Technology is super important nowadays within the public speaking realm. That means you must be well versed in applications such as PowerPoint or Canva. Being able direct and maneuver these websites allow you to make your presentation interactive and entertaining for the audience. This also plays into building your credibility and trustworthiness as a speaker.
When they began speaking about building confidence I related to it deeply because that is one of the biggest hinderances I face when pertaining to public speaking. I appreciated how they related how stage fright and personal preferences affect the delivery of your speech and later included ways to improve on that and build your confidence later in the powerpoint. The included tips such as the Three P's! Those being planning, preparing, and practicing. While it may seem so simple, these three tips are essential in having a well-delivered speech. The Three P's are crucial for feeling comfortable and confident while presenting. One way to practice to film yourself and review the video in order to get a gauge of how you are presenting the information. Rather than focusing on your anxiety, they also allow you to be more interested and engaged in your presentation.
I enjoyed this presentation because they were all very knowledgeable of the topic they were each presenting, and they all did a very great job on elaborating and supporting each other with their points. I also liked how they explained how to really listen because many people assume they know how to but in reality they are not, they are either distracted or pretending to pay attention.

Group 2: Chapters 4, 6, 7, & 8
Some of the key points I took from their presentation were that the main purpose must be highlighted during the speech. The continuously repeated how important it was to stay on topic and keep a general purpose in mind. Staying on topic during your speech is crucial because if you are straying away from the main idea there as is a possibility of confusing and misinforming your audience.
Brainstorming is the freeform generation of ideas for speech topics. Brainstorming allows you to pick a topic that fits a general purpose. I liked how they simplified the definition of brainstorming because it is a very abstract idea and varies for all presenters. They also included many examples of how brainstorming can lead to a strong, concrete idea that may be presented. I found the brainstorming techniques that they included super informative because they are encouraging new perspectives and ideas you may have never considered to be significant. Writing whatever came to mind was an idea that they solidified in my brain because when it comes to brainstorming I typically only write the "smart" ideas and not all at once. Writing them all when they come to mind allows for more connections and building to a stronger idea. I also enjoyed their emphasis on the importance of creativity because it allows you to be more engaged and interested in the topic you are talking about.
Overall, I found this presentation very informative educational. They all touched upon their key points and main ideas without over or under explaining. It was clear they all did their research beforehand and practiced what they were going to present. One thing that could have been improved were there slides as they were very wordy and the font was hard to read. A lot of the presenters were also presenting very fast, making it hard to retain and understand what they were explaining. But all in all, this was a very good presentation that summarized Chapter 4, 6, 7, and 8 extremely well.
Group 4: Chapters 13, 14, 15, 16 & 17
Group 3 began by describing what an informative speech is and how it is organized. Informative speeches are aimed to raise awareness and deepen the audience's understanding on a specific topic. The most important part of informative speeches are to have a clear, accurate meaning that is continuous throughout the speech. They are different from persuasive speeches because they do not try to convince or tell an audience what to do or think. The highlight the way to make speeches effective and repeat it to truly underline its importance. I appreciated how they included in depth guidelines for effective and informative speech, enabling them to look very knowledgable about their chapters.
To conclude, I enjoyed how their presentation was extremely detailed and included many examples throughout it. If I had to critique on one thing, I wished the whole presentation was done at the same time. To no fault of their own, the presentation seemed very all over the place and by the time the next class had come it was hard to remember what they had previously spoken about. Overall, the presentation was great and everyone was very prepared.
